(About)

What begins to happen when someone is deeply observed without being judged?

When people are met with accurate attention and positive regard, something begins to soften.

The energy once required to defend, perform, or suppress becomes available for observation.

Old adaptations become visible.

Choice returns.

Not because someone has been fixed.

Because they have finally become available to themselves.

(Philosophy)

Observation before intervention.

We rarely begin by trying to change people.

We begin by observing.

Without unnecessary judgment.

Without rushing toward solutions.

Because the quality of observation determines the quality of every insight that follows.

Sometimes the next step is not to push harder.
It is to see more clearly.

Every meaningful life, relationship, organisation and creative work eventually reaches a point where effort alone is no longer enough.

Pressure increases.

Conflict repeats itself.

A project loses momentum.

A relationship begins to feel stuck.

A story no longer comes alive.

We usually treat these as problems to solve.

What if they are also sources of information?

What if the place that feels most stuck is also the place where something essential has not yet become visible?

Sometimes the future changes because perception changes first.

(Areas of Inquiry)

Every inquiry begins differently.

People arrive here through many different doors.

Sometimes through grief, relationship, leadership, or a part of life that no longer feels fully alive.

Sometimes through the creative work itself—a character, a screenplay, or a story asking for greater depth.

And sometimes the work begins earlier than that: with an artist who knows there is something they want to express, but has not yet found the story capable of carrying it.

The form of the work follows what is discovered.

(Creative Inquiry)

What if the story hasn’t been written yet?

Much of creative development begins with a script and asks the actor to enter it.

We are also interested in the opposite direction.

What happens when we begin with the person?

An actor may arrive with a role they want to understand more deeply. Or they may arrive with no project at all—only the sense that the work available to them no longer reaches something they are ready to express.

Through sustained inner inquiry, experiences, relationships, contradictions and recurring patterns can become visible in ways they were not before.

Sometimes what is discovered belongs entirely to the person.

And sometimes, after it has been lived, understood and integrated, something within it asks to become art.

Not necessarily as autobiography.

It may become a character.

A dynamic between two characters.

A scene.

A question.

The beginning of an entirely different story.

Sometimes the story an artist has been waiting for is hidden inside the life they have not yet fully understood.

The Human Alignment Lab is interested in that threshold—and in what becomes possible when inner inquiry is allowed to participate in the creative process from its earliest stages.

(Ways to Work)

Private Inquiry

A sustained individual inquiry for founders, leaders, artists and others whose inner life and outer responsibilities can no longer be treated as separate.

Creative
Development

Working with actors, filmmakers, writers and other artists bringing a role, character, screenplay or emerging project into deeper contact with the human material beneath it.

Story Excavation

For an artist who may not yet have the project—but senses that something personally lived, unresolved, discovered or transformed may contain the seeds of one.

(The Lab)

Where inner inquiry and creative practice meet.

The Human Alignment Lab is an evolving practice and research environment for observing what becomes possible when human experience is approached with sufficient depth, attention and care.

Some inquiries remain private.

Some enter creative development.

Some may become part of a growing body of filmed observation, language and principles.

The work itself determines the form.

(From the Archive)

Before there was a Lab.

In 2015, I invited actor and producer Wendy Haines to take part in a filmed Journey process that I facilitated.

In the conversation that followed, we began talking about something I had already been imagining for years: what might become possible if an actor’s own inner process could help reveal the seeds of a story.

Listening back now, what strikes me isn’t how fully formed the idea was. It’s how much of the inquiry was already there.

ARCHIVE · 2015

The inquiry didn’t remain theoretical.

In 2015, I also turned the camera toward my own process.

I wanted to understand what might become visible when the person doing the observing was also willing to be observed.

The facilitator was Mary Jo Weavers, a fellow Journey practitioner whom I had met during our initial training in 2006. By then, we had been exchanging processes for years.

What follows is a brief excerpt from that session.

TEN YEARS LATER

I can see more now.

At the time, I understood what was happening primarily through the language of healing.

Looking at the footage now, I see something else as well: a person trying to understand the relationship between adaptation and aliveness — and what can happen when parts of ourselves have been organized around structures we no longer fully question.

The language has evolved. The inquiry has continued to deepen.

Voices from the Work

The most meaningful outcomes are often difficult to quantify, but not difficult to recognize.

These reflections come from people who arrived at the work through very

different circumstances. Each inquiry took its own form. What emerged,

however, reveals a remarkably consistent movement toward greater coherence.

At a time when I felt I would never recover from profound grief and despair, Francisca met me with extraordinary empathy and an uncommon understanding of the human experience. Through our work together, I found not only a renewed sense of meaning, but a fundamentally different relationship with myself and my life.

The experience became a powerful awakening. Her ability to create a space where deep truth can emerge has had a lasting impact—not only on me, but on my children and the life we have built since.

Maria B. — Owner & Director, Wonderkids, California

Over nearly thirty years as a practicing family medicine physician, I have encountered only a few colleagues I would consider true healers. Francisca is one of them.

She combines exceptional skill, experience, empathy, and clarity in helping people move beyond fear and self-reproach toward greater freedom and self-understanding.

I recommend her work without hesitation.

David B. Baron, M.D., FAAFP — Family Physician

Francisca’s greatest strength is something I had never experienced in four decades of working with coaches of every kind: her ability to help me develop a genuine capacity to accept and unconditionally love myself, while at the same time strengthening my desire to keep learning, growing, and improving.

That combination changed the direction of my life. During our year of working together, I followed a more soul-directed vision and ultimately founded Red Pill Real Estate—a company born directly from the clarity that emerged through our sessions.

The tools and perspectives I gained continue to influence every area of my life—from the boardroom, to the community, to my family. I still return to our notes regularly, and I remain deeply grateful for the enduring value of our work together.

(Francisca)

The work has taken different forms. The inquiry kept deepening.

I came to this work through film.

I trained in directing, screenwriting and acting. When my sister was diagnosed with cancer at 36, followed three years later by my mother’s diagnosis, the direction of my attention changed.

Questions I had carried intuitively for years became immediate. What happens inside a human being beneath the life we can see? What do we adapt to? What do we silence? And what becomes possible when something previously hidden is finally allowed to come into view?

In 2006, I trained as a Journey practitioner and began what became nearly two decades of working closely with people at moments of change, loss, reinvention and creative emergence.

Over thousands of hours of individual facilitation—and sustained inquiry into my own life—I became increasingly interested in what a person cannot yet see from inside their own story, and what becomes possible when it becomes visible.

The Human Alignment Lab brings those strands together.

Film. Human inquiry. Observation. Creative development.

And a continuing curiosity about what becomes possible when more of a person becomes available—to themselves, to another human being, and to what they create.

The language has changed. I recognize the impulse immediately.

For many years, much of my work took the form of coaching. Listening back, I can hear the language of that period — potential, limiting beliefs, the life someone dreams of living.

I would describe some of this differently now.

What I recognize is the attention underneath it: a belief that something important may already be present in a person before either of us has language for it — and that careful inquiry can help make it visible.

0:00/1:34

The language has evolved. The inquiry was already there.

What wants to emerge

What wants to emerge

My attention now is with what wants to be created — and with creating the conditions in which we can discover its form.

I am especially interested in working with people who have already done substantial inner work and are ready to put that capacity toward something beyond themselves.

We do not need to go looking for what is unresolved. If old patterns enter the process, we can meet what appears — feel it, understand it, metabolize what needs to be metabolized — without making it the center of the work.

Whether you arrive with a private inquiry, a creative development, a story to excavate, or simply the sense that something is asking for your attention, you do not need to know exactly where the work belongs before we begin.

The work is the creation.

You may already have a sense of what wants to emerge.

You do not need to know its form yet.

We can begin there.
